Who we are

Independent guides for everyday UK savers

SmartSaverUK was built on one simple observation: most UK households are overpaying on things they buy every week — groceries, broadband, energy, insurance — and don't know it. The information to fix that exists, but it's scattered, jargon-heavy and often written by people with a commercial interest in what you choose.

We set out to build something different. Every guide on SmartSaverUK starts from the question "what is actually best for the reader?" — not "what earns us the most commission?" Our editorial team researches and updates every piece of content weekly, and our recommendations are reviewed by independent financial experts before publication.

We cover savings accounts, broadband deals, credit cards, cashback sites, energy switching, insurance and everyday spending — every area where UK households consistently overpay. Our goal is simple: help you save £600+ a year without changing how you live.

Transparency

How SmartSaverUK makes money

SmartSaverUK is free to use because we earn commission from some of the financial providers we feature. Here's exactly how it works — and more importantly, what it never does.

🔗
Affiliate links
When you click a link to a product and apply or sign up, the provider pays us a commission. This is the most common way we earn revenue. All affiliate links on the site are clearly marked with an asterisk (*).
📋
Lead generation
For some products — particularly insurance and energy switching — we earn a fixed fee when a reader completes a quote or switches through our link, regardless of whether they proceed.
📣
Sponsored content
Occasionally we publish clearly labelled sponsored guides produced in partnership with financial providers. These are always marked as "Sponsored" and held to the same factual accuracy standards.
🚫
What we don't do
We don't accept payment to feature a product, don't change rankings based on commission levels, and don't write positive reviews in exchange for fees. Ever.
Commission never influences these editorial decisions
Which product ranks first in a comparison table — always the best rate or value
Whether a product is included in a guide at all — we include the best options regardless of whether they pay us
The written content of a review — positive or negative editorial is always based on the product's merits
Whether we flag drawbacks or downsides — we always tell readers what's not good about a product

Editorial policy

How we research and verify our content

Every guide and comparison on SmartSaverUK follows a consistent editorial process designed to give you information you can trust and act on.

1
Weekly rate verification
Every interest rate, deal value and product detail is checked against the provider's live website every week. If a rate changes, the guide is updated within 24 hours and the "Last updated" date is refreshed at the top of the page.
2
Independent expert review
All finance content is reviewed by James Carter CFA before publication. His role is to check factual accuracy, flag misleading claims and ensure the content meets the standard expected of a YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) publication.
3
Ranking methodology
Products are ranked by the criteria most relevant to the reader — typically AER rate for savings, cost per month for broadband, and cashback percentage for credit cards. Commercial relationships with providers play no part in ranking order.
4
Corrections policy
If we make a factual error, we correct it promptly, note the correction at the bottom of the affected article, and update the last-modified date. We do not silently edit content to remove errors without acknowledgement.
5
Affiliate disclosure on every page
Every page on SmartSaverUK carries a clear affiliate disclosure. Articles with affiliate links mark those links with an asterisk (*). We follow the FCA's Consumer Duty guidance and the ASA/CAP rules on financial promotions.
